Matt Brewing Company
This interesting brew pours a deep amber brown, as one would expect a porter to do. The clarity is low and the color is rich. The slightly off-white head is certainly not billowing but it leaves a lovely, even lace down the glass. The aroma has strong caramel notes, like popcorn, but not as thin—the maltiness is sweet, but not cloying, and are certainly more noticeable than any hops. On the tongue those hops are equally subtle though the overall flavor is not nearly as sweet as the nose and there is a mild spiciness. This helps the moderate mouthfeel and the thin carbonation throughout the swallow, with sweet maltiness on the outside of the tongue just towards the end.
