Part of Lion’s Stegmaier brand, this brewery epitomizes the old Pennsylvania beer country. I’ve tried the Lionshead and I’m looking forward to this next brew.
Pours amber and coppery with a nice off-white head that fades quickly but looks great and looks like it will leave a good lace. The nose is malty with a nice touch of butterscotch and just a hint of floral hops. The mouthfeel is great with fine effervescence. There is a mild pepper spice but the malt is really the main thing here. The butterscotch is not really evident in the sip as there isn’t a sweetness so much as an orange tang that tempers well with the crisp biscuit notes. The finish is really clean thanks to the hops but there is still enough for you to chew on.
