Stone Cat ESB
Part of the Ipswich brewing family, Stone Cat is a lively ale which foams up into the glass. The head is frothy and white and clings with a nice honeycomb. The clarity is excellent through the copper penny color. A slightly spicy maltiness dominates the nose, though faint hints of a citrus rind hoppiness is much more prevalent than most English style pales. The mouthfeel is decent though not as interesting as the nose lets on. The hoppiness is not as sweet as expected when paired with the English malt and the spiciness is lesspepper and more metallic high-IBU/ABV. The overall flavor could benefit from better bread or biscuit notes, but it still satisfies and would pair well with fish and chips.
